It features a ring of metal made of a rudder fitted to airframe G-BOAB. Bearing the serial number ‘VW23’ the rudder was manufactured in 1976 at BAC Weybridge, initially being fitted to Concorde G-BOAG in 1977. Later it was transferred to G-BOAC, upon which airframe it spent the next twelve years before, following a modification, being fitted to G-BOAB in 1992. Whilst fitted to G-BOAB the rudder failed during the transatlantic flight from London to New York. In total during its service VW23 accrued a total of 10,861 flight hours and 3,724 landings before being retired, over 10,000 hours of which were on G-BOAC.
